Chef Tour 2015: North Italy

Starting in Venice and ending in Rome, this Chef Tour explores the region of Venice, Tuscany and Abruzzo. Every day includes culinary and cultural experiences.

 

Stop One: Veneto Region

Day 1: Venice

Spend the first day of the Chef's Tour exploring Venice by foot.  Experience guided tours of churches and museums. Afternoon Pranzo (lunch) at [insert restaurant]. Wine tasting to follow in the evening coupled with a light (cena) dinner.

Day 2: Venice

Attend a four hour cooking class in an apartment in Venice. Late afternoon visit the Modern Art Museum. End the day with a gondola ride down the Great Canal.

Day 3: Venice and Modena

Leave Venice by car and drive toward second stop in Tuscany. On the way stop in Modena for a Balsalmic Tour. Visit the Ferari museum in Modena. Stop at local farms and buy parmesan cheese directly from farmers. Stop in Parma/Bologna for an authentic Tuscan lunch. Arrive at the Villa, Il Lupo Nero, in Viareggio and end the day with wine and a light dinner prepared by Villa's caretaker.

 

Stop Two: Tuscany Region

Day 4: Viareggio

Shop with Chef Bryan at local Farmers Market in the morning. Enjoy lunch prepared by Chef Bryan at the Villa. In the afternoon go on a guided tour of the leaning Tower of Pisa. End the day at a quaint local restaurant for dinner.

Day 5: Luca and Vinci

Visit the beautifully preserved mideival city. See the  Manzi Palace and Ancient Aqueducts. Lunch at [ insert restaurant]. End the afternoon with a wine tasting and light dinner.

Day 6: Florence

On the way to Florence, stop in Vinci, the hometown of Leonardo di Vinci and visit museum dedicated to the Great Inventor. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to Florence and tour the Academia Galleria and see Michelangelo's Famous David statue. Climb to the Duomo, the top of the Cathedral of Santa Maria die Fiorni. Visit the Ufitzi museum. Return to the Villa in Viareggio and eat pizza made by Chef Bryan.

Day 7: Florence

Day 8: Sienna

On the drive to Sienna, first stop at a -- for a cheese tasting. Continue to the medieval city of Sienna. Tour La Foce Gardens. Visit [insert church] and [insert museum]. Enjoy lunch at [insert restaurant.] Attend an Italian Opera. Light dinner at a local restaurant.

Stop Three: Abruzzo Region

Day 10: L' Aquila 

Sight seeing and getting acquainted with the city of L' Aquila. Dinner at Fratell Nurzia, a Gourmet Family Run Restaurant. Evening strolling through cafe' and regional shops.

Day 11: Goriano Valli

Visiting our host's hometown of Goriano Valli and surrounding areas. Special gourmet dinner at a modest restaurant, not fancy but serving excellent food, run by our host's our family friend.

                          Day 12: Grotte di Stiffe

Visiting the "Grotte di Stiffe" in the morning and continuing to Santo Stefano di Sessanio in the early afternoon. Dinner at a special, family run, "Agriturismo" Restaurant. Return to L'Aquila and enjoy the last evening with wine tasting
